Wednesday Morning Update

Once again patchy fog is a possibility for the next several hours across eastern Oklahoma.  Daytime highs will range in the mid 80s today with SE winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour.  An upper level system to our southeast will move northeast later today bringing a slight chance for a few showers and thunderstorms.   After today, our attention will turn to a powerful storm system organizing across the Pacific Northwest.  This system will bring a strong cold front into the area Friday evening with a chance of thunderstorms followed by much cooler air.  A few of the thunderstorms may be severe late Friday night.  

The upper level system to our southeast this morning will provide scattered showers and storms across portions of Arkansas, but a few scattered showers or storms will be possible across Eastern OK.  Some of the Hi-RES data indicates a few near Tulsa later today.  A small area of thunderstorm activity could also approach southern Kansas early Thursday morning before weakening.   

 The powerful upper level system located across the Pacific Northwest will move eastward over the next 24 to 36 hours.  Strong southerly winds will develop across Texas and Oklahoma tomorrow keeping a good flow of low level moisture across the region.  A surface area of low pressure is expected to develop and move across portions of central Kansas Friday afternoon.  A surface cold front will enter Northwestern Oklahoma Friday afternoon and advance southeastward into northern Oklahoma Friday evening.  The stronger dynamics will remain northeast of the state, but some severe thunderstorm activity is possible along the boundary Friday night with a threat of a few storms with damaging wind and hail.  A tornado threat may exist for the northeast portion of Kansas, a small area of Missouri, and portions of Iowa.   

 The cold front will be exiting southern Oklahoma early Saturday with rain and thunderstorm activity moving away from the state after the morning hours.  There is a chance that some lingering rain will continue near northern OK during the early Saturday time period.  A dry and stable air mass will invade northern Oklahoma Saturday afternoon and evening bringing a good taste of fall weather to the region.  Saturday morning lows will be in the lower 50s with afternoon highs only in the mid 60s.  Northwest winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour will be likely along with decreasing clouds and partly sunny conditions.  Sunday morning temperatures will drop in the lower to mid-40s for a very large area of northern Oklahoma. A few locations along the Northern OK-Southern Kansas state line may experience upper 30s for a few hours early Sunday morning.  Daytime highs Sunday afternoon will more than likely stay in the upper 60s Or possibly as warm as the lower 70s.  I think at this point, I'll stick with the upper 60s.

The high temperature in Tulsa yesterday was 87 recorded at 3:35pm.

 The normal daily average high is 77 and the low is 55.

 Daily records include a high of 96 recorded on this date in 1978 and a low of 39 from both 2003 and 1975.
