The Tulsa Chamber hopes to hit a home run by bringing the Big 12 conference baseball tournament to ONEOK Field in 2015.
Organizers made the announcement Thursday, saying they've been standing in the on-deck circle for the tournament since the construction of the Tulsa Drillers' home field four years ago.
The five-day event will run May 19-24, 2015 and will feature back to back doubleheaders.
Ray Hoyt with the Tulsa Sport Commission calls this a great opportunity for Tulsa, that could lead to future Big 12 events, like the Big 12 basketball tournament.
Historically, the conference tournament has been held Oklahoma City since 1976 when it was the Big Eight. The only exceptions being in 2002 and 2004 when the Big 12 Tournament was held in Arlington, Texas, at the Rangers Stadium.
Tulsa's bid for the tournament is a one-year deal.
The economic impact is expected to be in the millions, bringing in visitors from as far away as West Virginia.
The Tulsa Chamber's announcement comes on the heels of the news that two Bedlam games will be played at ONEOK Field starting in 2014.
