Friday Morning Update

Good morning.  We're tracking a cold front that will move across northern Oklahoma this morning and across the southern part of the state later today.  Rain with a few rumbles of thunder will be common for the next several hours across northern Oklahoma before moving out of the area between 9am and 11am.  Shower and thunderstorm activity will be possible across the southern third of the area through the early afternoon hours before ending around 3pm to 4pm.  These end times are approximate and could change.  Winds will be out of the north at 10 to 15 miles per hour.   Cloud cover combined with showers and thunderstorms will keep temperatures in the mid to upper 70s today across northern Oklahoma.  A few showers may linger later this evening across far southern Oklahoma, but most Friday night football games across the state will be in great shape weather wise even though fields will be wet.   

 A strong upper level system is moving across the extreme northern part of the country this morning.  A cold front is continuing to slowly move southward and will bring a nice taste of fall to the state today.  

 A ridge of high-pressure at the surface will build in from the Missouri Valley into northern Oklahoma this weekend.  Dry air in the lower level of the atmosphere will allow morning lows in the 50s across most of northern Oklahoma this weekend.  Saturday afternoon high temps may stay in the upper 70s for some spots, but I'll continue to keep a high near 82 on the seven day planner for the Tulsa area.  Northeast winds at 10 miles per hour along with abundant sunshine (after the early morning hours) will be the call.   

 A short wave trough will move across the central portion of the nation Sunday night into Monday.  This will cause the pressure to fall across the Rockies and our winds will return from the East and southeast Sunday into Monday. A few showers or stores may be possible Monday, but the higher probability should remain north of the state.  I will not include any pops for this short wave nearing the area Monday.  There may also be a system to our east or southeast during this period, but again, I'll keep any precip off the map for this forecast cycle.

 The next major weather- maker will be arriving at the end of next week.  GFS-EURO data indicate a major upper level system will be nearing the central and northern portion of the nation by the end of next week.  This pattern could support a severe weather possibility by Next Friday into the weekend somewhere along the boundary if low level moisture could transport northward  but it's impossible to have any confidence in model data this far out.  I'll suggest a front could be nearing the area Friday or Saturday, but refrain from any severe weather mentions on the broadcast.   

The high in Tulsa yesterday was 93 recorded at 11:51am.

 The normal high is 82 and the normal low is 60. 

 Records include a high of 102 from 1984 and a record low of 39 from 1938.
