A benefit carnival and cookout will be held for a City of Tulsa employee badly burned in a gas line explosion last month. Due to the severity of his injuries, Robert Bower is not expected to return to work, according to a new release from the city workers union.

The AFSCME Local 1180 is holding the family-friendly event from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Veterans Park, 18th and Boulder. There will be food, games, prizes, music and a raffle.

Bower is recovering from severe burns to his upper torso, face and hands after his crew hit a reportedly unmarked natural gas line while moving a water line at a south Tulsa apartment complex on August 29. Bower, his wife and their foster children will benefit from money raised at the event and through donations.

Donations can be made at any Bank of Oklahoma branch to the Robert K. Bower Benefit Fund.
