Tuesday Morning Update

Good morning.  We are tracking a few showers and thunderstorms this morning across portions of northern Oklahoma. No severe weather is expected.   The showers and thunderstorms will move east and northeast at 20 to 30 miles per hour for the next few hours.  The precipitation will be very spotty and a number of locations will once again remain dry.  Not all locations will experience the showers or storms.  We anticipate a break during the mid-day and early afternoon hours, & a few additional showers or thunderstorms will be possible later this afternoon.  Daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 80's will be likely in northern Oklahoma and lower 90's across the southern third of the state.  East winds this morning will be followed by southeast winds later this afternoon and the 10 to near 15 miles per hour range.   

 After today, precipitation chances will be limited to southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas by Wednesday morning.   A fast moving storm system will swing across the area late Thursday night into Friday morning and low-level moisture will rapidly increase over the region.  A surface cold front will move across the area early Friday morning with a good likelihood of showers and thunderstorms.  The timing of this system is still uncertain, but latest data supports late Thursday night into early Friday morning.  Temperatures Friday afternoon could stay in the upper 70s to low 80s depending on the coverage of precipitation.  There will be a chance for showers and thunderstorms during the first part of Friday night football games, especially across the southeastern portion of the state.  Most of the data supports most of the precipitation Friday morning through midday.   

 At this point in the forecast process, the weekend looks good.  Morning lows in the lower to mid-60s will be followed by daytime highs in the mid to upper 80s.  There may be another system sometime early next week, but the upper air pattern may support a stronger system around Thursday September 26th to near Saturday Sept 28th.  This is not a specific forecast but just a "heads up" that we may have another system sometime late next week.  

 The Sun angle continues to change rapidly.  Sunset is earlier and earlier comparing previous days.  The official start of fall is just a few days away, September 22nd, 03:44 p.m. 

  In summary, rain chances will continue this morning across part of northern Oklahoma and daytime highs will be back in the mid to upper 80s.  Similar to yesterday, the higher chance for showers and thunderstorms will occur across the northern portions of the state.  Once again many locations near and south of Tulsa will be void of precipitation.   

 Yesterday's high temperature in Tulsa was 86 from 3:41pm. 

 The normal daily average high is 83 and the low is 62. 

 Daily records include a high of 104 from 1931 and a low of 44 from 1981.
