Man Arrested In McIntosh County Woman's August 2012 Murder

Authorities made an arrest Thursday in a year-old McIntosh County homicide case.

A McIntosh County Sheriff's detective and an OSBI agent arrested 53-year-old Steven Lee Vanzant for the murder of Deborah Kathryn Kelso.

Firefighters found Kelso's body in her burning house near Checotah on August 14, 2012.

Investigators say Vanzant shot Kelso in the head and then set fire to the house the two had shared for many years.

Vanzant was arrested at a friend's home near Okemah around 11 a.m. Thursday, after a year-long investigation including multiple agencies.

He was booked into the McIntosh County jail on a charge of first degree murder. He's being held on $2 million bond.

Court records show his preliminary hearing is set for November 7, 2013.
