The City of Tulsa has won a federal grant to build sidewalks around an elementary school in Brookside.

Eliot Elementary has sidewalks around the building, but not on most surrounding streets. That leaves children and parents walking in between traffic on crowded, small, neighborhood streets.

The federal grant is for $334,000. The city will pay the remaining cost to install sidewalks primarily on Rockford and 36th Place.

Construction is expected to start next year.
