Authorities say an 18-month-old Sequoyah County girl drowned in a swimming pool before the adults around realized she had gotten into the water.
It happened Wednesday around 8 p.m.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Marine Enforcement Division says Lakelyn Thornell had been wearing a personal floatation device, but it had been removed during one of multiple trips from the pool to the house.
Troopers say there were several adults near the above ground pool with an attached deck, but none of them had realized the girl had gotten back in. Sometime later, they found the 18-month-old floating face down in the water.
Someone administered CPR and called 911, OHP says. Little Lakelyn was transported from the home about a mile west of Muldrow to a Fort Smith hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.
