A Broken Arrow father got a phone call Thursday afternoon that gripped his heart with fear. Someone had broken into his home, while his two daughters and a friend were home alone.

His girls knew just what to do, because he had talked to them about it many times before. They got out immediately and called 911.

911 dispatcher: "What's going on?"
Girl: "Um, someone just broke into my house"
911 dispatcher: "Okay, are they still there?"

Girl: "I don't know. I ran outside."
911 dispatcher: "Okay."

That young girl is 14 years old.

She and her 13-year-old sister had her 14-year-old friend over. One minute, they were watching TV, and the next minute, they were facing the scariest moment of their lives.

What started as a soft knock on the backdoor, quickly turned to pounding, and then they saw a silhouette of a man with a baseball bat and knew something was very wrong.

We are protecting their identities.

"I heard the deadbolt about to give and was like, get out now. We were running and shaking and we couldn't get the front door unlocked. By the time we got it unlocked, we heard the backdoor slam against the wall," the 14-year-old girl said.

She called 911, her sister ran to a trusted neighbor's house, and the friend called the girls' dad, who had run to Lowe's.

"I was terrified. That was the scariest thing I've ever had in my entire life. I would never want a parent to get that call," their father, Scott, said.

The girls are okay, the suspect got away, and Scott is thankful for all those times he and the girls watched scary movies, which led to many conversations about what they would do if something like this ever happened to them.

He told them they did great.

"You guys do understand I'm so proud. You guys handled yourselves when many kids would've panicked," Scott said.

From the tire tracks in the field behind their house, it looks like back there is where the man parked his truck, described as a faded maroon S-10 pickup with a black stripe, a dent on the side and loud exhaust. The girls say he was in his 50s and had white hair.

"I was terrified. I was just thinking, what if something happens, it was the most scariest thing in the world," the 13-year-old girl said.

Police say, if someone knocks, made a lot of noise inside. If that doesn't scare them off, the best plan if they come in is that you get out.

If anyone sees the truck or knows who it belongs to, call the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office at 918-485-3124.
