The City of Tulsa's new Alert program which warns residents by phone, text or e-mail about emergency situations goes live in early September.

City officials say the program will provide alerts about emergencies like impending severe weather, flooding or neighborhood gas leaks.

The alerts will automatically be sent out to all land-line phones within the city's boundaries. But city residents can also sign up for text or e-mail alerts.

Customers who add their cell phones and e-mail addresses will be able to tailor alerts to receive notifications in about 20 categories, such as public meetings, street projects or city council agendas.

Sign-up forms are available on the City's web site. The Alert program begins September 9.
