Two people were shot after a large crowd gathered in the 3200 block of East Memorial outside the IHOP and McDonald's restaurants. Police say the area is a common gathering place after Tulsa nightclubs close on the weekends.
Sergeant Darrin Bristow said officers were trying to disperse the crowds at about 2:30 a.m. when they got a call that a person had been shot. They found a 17-year-old man who had a bullet wound to the right buttocks.
The teen was taken to a local hospital.
"Right now he's not being real cooperative or giving us any information about who might have shot him," Bristow said.
Police found several shell casings at the scene.
A short time afterward, another call came in about a second shooting victim outside the nearby Country Inn Suites. When police arrived, the shooting victim could not be found.
Police say that man, a 21-year-old who had been shot in the arm, called for help later from the 6000 block of East 25th Place. The man wanted help for pain but also would not cooperate with police, authorities say.
"This is not unusual when you have a large event going on with a crowd, where someone might shoot into the crowd," said Sergeant Tim Lewandowski, TPD. Lewandowski was on scene when the second shooting victim called in.
"Generally the victims will disperse and maybe self-transport by private vehicle to the hospital or they might just transport back to their residence."
