A Tulsa firefighter was injured early Friday after falling off a ladder at the scene of an apartment fire.

The Tulsa Fire Department responded at 4:25 a.m. to a report of a mattress on fire in an upstairs apartment in the 800 block of North Birmingham.

Tulsa Fire Captain Stan May says Captain Alec Ridner fell about 10 feet and hurt his shoulder.

EMSA took Ridner to the hospital to be evaluated. May said his injury was not considered serious.

Officials believe a cigarette started the mattress fire.

Captain May says no one living in the building was injured.

The Red Cross says they helped 12 families with places to stay, food and clothing after being displaced by fire.
