Tyler Matzek turned in yet another dominant pitching performance to lead the Tulsa Drillers to a 3-0 win over the Springfield Cardinals Wednesday night.
Matzek was brilliant for Tulsa, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters on 106 pitches. The Tulsa bullpen combination of Joe Gardner and Cole White weren't too shabby either, walking just one batter and giving up no hits in the final 2.1 innings. White picked up his 11th save of the season for his work in the ninth inning.
Tulsa picked up two runs in the top of the third inning when Kiel Roling knocked a double to centerfield, scoring Kyle Parker and Cristhian Adames.
Meanwhile, Matzek dominated on the mound for the Drillers, silencing the Springfield bats and limiting the damage when the Cardinals did. Matzek only let two runners reach second base all night before being lifted in the seventh inning.
The Drillers had added an insurance run in the top of the frame when Parker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Tim Smalling from third.
Jonathan Cornelius took the loss for the Cardinals.
The Drillers return home Thursday night to take on Arkansas at 7:05 p.m. at ONEOK Field.
