Tulsa Firefighters Check City Hydrant Water Supply

The Tulsa Fire Department is doing something that can help protect property and maybe even save lives.

They're checking the city's roughly 1,600 fire hydrants to make sure they're in good working order.

Each fire station has a list of hydrants to check. If there's a problem - public works is alerted and they generally have it fixed within 24 hours.

TFD tells us less than half of one-percent of hydrants have issues. This is the third year of a three-year agreement between TFD and the city to check the hydrants.

It's a plan expected to be extended by the chief.
