More Hot, Humid Weather...Typical of July.

As you can by the first image on the right, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, what showers/storms we had were spotty at best. Some lucky folks managed to pick up some decent rainfall, but most of us were left high and dry. Unfortunately, our prospects for much in the way of any additional significant rainfall are pretty slim. The second map on the right is the QPF valid through this coming Monday and it shows some heavy rainfall much further east but we will be left high and dry once again.

That is not to say that there is absolutely no chance of rain as the system that produced what showers/storms we had this afternoon will become diffuse through the next few days but could produce a few showers/storms again on Thursday. After that, the chances become too small to put on the forecast graphics, although cannot completely rule out a rogue shower or two in the more terrain favored locations on any given day.

At least, the more NE winds we will have on Thursday is expected to keep temperatures below triple digits although the heat index will still make it feel like triple digits. In fact, the heat advisory and heat warning remains in effect through Thursday as heat index values will likely be around the 105 mark which is in dangerous territory.

By Friday and through the weekend, our winds will be more from the SE but will still be rather light with wind speeds generally around the 5-15 mph range on any given day. We will still be hot through the weekend and into the following week, but at least this current weather pattern should keep temperatures just below triple digits during the day and generally in the 70s at night. In other words, just a bit warmer than normal for this time of year.

However, if we don't get some rain soon, the drier soils and stressed vegetation will lead to higher temperatures and we could easily get into another run at triple digits later this month. Unfortunately, the longer range prospects for any significant moisture are also slim at best.
