Investigators say they suspect an inmate who died at the Tulsa County jail committed suicide.
Brian Keith Perry, 41, was found by a detention officer just before midnight Tuesday. Jail officials say he was unresponsive, so the officer called for a medical emergency.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says medics with Correctional Healthcare Companies, the jail's healthcare service, and medics with EMSA and the Tulsa Fire Department showed up within minutes to begin trying to resuscitate Perry.
They say, while trying to revive Perry, a registered nurse from the jail suffered a cardiac emergency and was taken to a local hospital.
The sheriff's office says Perry was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m., on July 10. Investigators say they think he died from "positional asphyxiation."
His official cause of death will be determined by the state Medical Examiner.
Perry had been in the jail since June 7. He was charged with receiving or possessing stolen property, larceny from a retailer, speeding in a school zone, driving on a suspended license, and resisting arrest.
Court records show Perry had previous convictions in Tulsa, Okmulgee, Wagoner, Rogers and Creek Counties.
