Judge Reduces Sentence For Vinita Woman In Child Porn Case

A judge Monday reduced the sentence of a Vinita woman, was convicted on child porn charges after taking a naked picture of her 2-year-old daughter and sending it to a man she'd met through Craigslist.

Last week, the judge sentenced Brittiny Dick to 68 years in prison. He changed it Monday to 51 years.

Brittiny Dick's family has remained silent since her arrest last September. They say they do believe she did wrong and believe she should go to prison, but they say 51 years is excessive. They are coming forward now, to tell her side of the story.

Brittiny's parents describe her as naive, gullible, easily influenced by others, and a follower, not a leader. They say she got pregnant when she was young, but was a good mother, who took care of her little girl.

They say she placed an ad on Craigslist, because she was lonely and was hoping to find a man who would love her and her daughter, but instead Ricky Lewis answered her ad--a man prosecutors say is a sexual deviant, who contacted several people, talking about his desires to have sex with children and babies.

At his request, Brittiny sent a picture of her daughter, naked, to his phone, but Brittiny's mother said, once she realized the seriousness of what she'd done, her daughter changed her number and stopped all contact with Lewis.

They understand she must pay for her crime, but believe 51 years is more than some rapists, robbers, even murderers get.

"Maybe five, 10, 15, even 17 years for all 4 counts would've been fine," her mother, Ruby Dick, said. "They shouldn't be served consecutively, but concurrently. That would've been fine, and I probably wouldn't be here today."

She said Brittiny never touched her daughter and that her daughter has no memory of her mother taking a picture of her, although in her confession, Brittiny told police that when she took the photo, her daughter said, "Mommy, no."

Her parents said their daughter is very remorseful, but has been too scared to express it, and they believe she deserves a second chance, since she's never been in trouble with the law before.

Prosecutors called this case disgusting and despicable and argued Brittiny should get as long or longer in prison as the man who requested the photos, Ricky Lewis, who got 60 years.

Ruby Dick said there's a side to her daughter people haven't seen, that she has a good heart and, "That she's not that monster that everybody has portrayed her. She's not a pervert, not a sex offender. She's a young mother who made a very big mistake."

The judge said Brittiny Dick will be 65 years old before she'll be released from prison. Her mother cried and said she won't be alive to see her daughter get out.
