OHP: Fatal Hit-And-Run Lake Eufaula Boater Identified

Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators have identified the boater involved in a hit-and-run collision that left two children injured and an Oklahoma City man dead.

News On 6 has learned that the driver of the ski boat that hit another vessel on Lake Eufaula July 4 is expected to turn himself in on Monday in McIntosh County.

Crews recovered the body of Gary McIninch Saturday evening in 17 feet of water about a mile east of Eufaula Cove.

McIninch had been missing since Independence Day when he was thrown overboard during the fatality collision.

His two grandchildren were injured in the same boat wreck that killed McIninch, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Marine Investigation Division. Troopers continue to investigate the fatality hit-and-run boating collision that took place shortly after 10 p.m.

McIninch was one of several people who were on a pontoon boat that was hit by a another vessel that was traveling east from the Eufaula Cove area.

The pontoon was tied up to a 1996 Stingray as McIninch and ten other people watched a fireworks show.

Investigators say the boat that left the scene was a white and dark colored ski boat about 20 feet long. The driver crashed into the pontoon and circled around to ask if the boaters were all right.

When the driver was told McIninch was missing and the police would be called, he took off, according to McIninch's daughter.

Family members say McIninch saved the lives of his two granddaughters by protecting them in the collision. One of the children suffered a broken leg and is still in the hospital.
