The Sand Springs Police Department has announced it is investigating after a man reportedly approached a 20-year-old woman as she was jogging Sunday afternoon and attempted to rape her.

The woman was running on the trail in River City Park about 4:20 p.m. when she was attacked, according to assistant chief of police Mike Carter.

Carter said in a news release that a man on a black bicycle passed the woman once, then again as she ran under the Highway 97 bridge.

The woman told police the man waited until she approached the second time, then he pulled out a gun and forced her to walk to a wooded area.

He demanded she perform sexual acts and also produced a knife, police said. The woman was cut on the hand as she fought her attacker for control of the weapon. She told police she believed the man was cut on the leg during the struggle.

After the attacker ran away, the woman was able to seek medical attention at a facility nearby and was treated, released and interviewed by investigators, according to the release.

SSPD is looking for a 6-foot, slender white man with blonde or gray hair who may be wearing a ball cap, blue shirt and cargo shorts. He was last seen riding a black bike with a case on the handlebars.
