Sand Springs police say an 18-year-old man was killed in a wreck on Old North Road just west of South 81st West Avenue.

Deputy Police Chief Mike Carter identified the man as Richard Lee Dehart Jr.

Carter told News On 6 a jogger spotted Dehart's Chevrolet SUV about 15 feet off the roadway in a wooded area. The SUV was discovered at about 7:45, and officers believe the wreck took place some time over night.

"It appears to be a one-car accident, and it also appears that alcohol may have been involved," Carter said.

Authorities say they believe DeHart was alone at the time of the collision. He was not wearing a seat belt, Carter said.

The accident took place on a downhill slope on the curvy, scenic road.

"We're not seeing a lot of evidence that there was braking," Carter said. "The person might have been unaware of the curve, and again if you had alcohol, the person might not have been able to brake in time for the curve."

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, he said.
