Governor Fallin Rejects Clemency For Death Row Inmate

Gov. Mary Fallin has rejected a recommendation by the state Pardon and Parole Board for clemency to death row inmate Brian Darrell Davis.

Fallin rejected the recommendation in an executive order signed Thursday -- one week after the board's June 6 clemency hearing where board members voted 4-1 to recommend that Davis' death sentence be commuted to life in prison without parole.

Fallin's order states that Davis is to be executed as scheduled on June 25 at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester.

The 39-year-old Davis was convicted by a Kay County jury of first-degree murder and first-degree rape in the November 2001 death of his girlfriend's mother, 52-year-old Josephine Sanford. Davis was sentenced to death on the murder conviction and 100 years in prison for the rape.
