Law enforcement officers from across the state are in Tulsa right now for a conference on how to crack down on gang violence.

The first order of business Tuesday was to honor a Tulsa police officer with the "Warrior Award."

Back in January, Officer Tyler Turnbough was in the fight of his life with a gang member who grabbed onto his holstered gun and would not let go.

He later told News On 6's Lori Fullbright that he tried every training technique he could think of to break the suspect's grip, but nothing was working. So, he began yelling out to nearby homeowners to call police for backup.

Officer Turnbough eventually used the knife in his gun belt to defend himself and end the fight.
