Sand Springs Police are searching for the people responsible for stealing stainless steel boat props.

Last week, Ronnie Adams woke up and discovered part of his $1,500 dual stainless steel boat prop was missing. Adams has security cameras on his house, so he immediately pulled up the footage to see when and how this happened.

"The first thief removed the first boat prop and he left and he came back with help and they were trying to remove the second one, because I have a Volvo dual prop. And they were unsuccessful removing the second prop, thank God," Adams said.

According to Sand Springs Police, Adams isn't the first target in the area. The department is currently working multiple cases like this one.

"This person is going around, maybe assisting other people, and we think they are taking props in our community," said Deputy Police Chief Mike Carter.

Tawnya Hayward also fell victim to this crime. This time, the crooks went into her backyard and stole her steel propeller.

These victims have one question.

"What are you doing with all the boat props? That's the big question, because there are a lot missing," Adams said.

Police say this is the prime time to steal boating equipment. The thieves may be looking to make some extra cash by scrapping the metal or selling it cheap to other boaters.

"Other people are out on the lakes, they're dinging up their props and sometimes it's an easy sale. It's a quick item to get rid of. If you're out at the lake, you can find people who want to buy props," Carter said.

Because of that law enforcement is asking all boaters to take extra precautions.

"I've got a lock I ordered off eBay that I'm going to put on there, so they can't steal it again," Adams said. "I wish I had done that before."

Sand Springs Police say the surveillance video has led to multiple tips.

If you know anything, you're asked to call the police department.
