The Vinita Service Plaza on the Will Rogers Turnpike in Craig County closed Tuesday. The plaza includes the iconic McDonald's that stretches across I-44.
The plaza will be closed for a year for a major renovation project, meaning there will no rest stops on the Turnpike between Tulsa and Missouri state line.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority released an artist rendering of what the plaza will look like when renovation work is completed in the spring of 2014.
The McDonald's over the highway will still be there, but the plaza will be expanded to include a Subway and a larger convenience store.
The original plaza was built in 1957, and the renovations, which will include all new glass for the windows - are badly needed.
The highway which passes underneath will remain open, but the OTA says there will be times when they have to close down one side and shift all traffic the other side during the renovation work.
