Delaware County police are waiting to arrest a man they say shot his wife - and then himself.
Police found 52-year-old Doyle Handle bleeding in his front yard in Grove, Thursday. This came after, according to the affidavit, a man called 911 and said, "I need the cops at 103 Wood Street. I've shot my wife," then hung up.
Dena Davenport was found in the house, the affidavit says, slumped over and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. She later died at a Grove hospital.
Investigators found a 9 mm semi-automatic hand gun on the floor in the house, along with two shell casings.
The affidavit states, while police and first responders were clearing the scene, Handle blurted out, "I tried to kill myself after I shot her in the head," in the presence of an officer.
Handle is still in serious condition.
A neighbor told investigators that he was at the residence Thursday and saw the couple arguing, but said that was not unusual. The affidavit states Handle told the neighbor, "I ought to shoot the ***** in the head and drag her out to the front yard." The neighbor told police he had heard Handle say something similar several times, but never thought he would actually do it.
A warrant for Handle's arrest was issued Friday.
