As Tulsa prepares to choose its mayor for the next term, officials are reminding eligible citizens that Friday is the deadline to register to vote in the primary election.
The May 11 primary will feature five candidates for the mayor’s office -- including current mayor Dewey Bartlett, former mayor Kathy Taylor, former city councilor Bill Christiansen, Lawrence Kirkpatrick and Jerry Branch.
It’s possible this primary could carry more weight than ever before.
The City of Tulsa has adopted new nonpartisan elections, which means if one of the candidates for mayor were to earn more than 50 percent of the vote next month, he or she will be elected outright, and there will be no general election.
Also on the ballot will be three running for the office of city auditor. Current auditor Clift Richards, Joshua Lewis and Cathy Criswell are vying for the spot.
To register, you can go to any tag agency and fill out the proper form, or print your own at home and mail it to the election board. As long as your application is postmarked on May 17, you will be eligible to vote June 11.
