Tahlequah Mom Pleads Guilty To Burning Son's Genitals With Hair Straightener

A Tahlequah mother set to stand trial for next week for burning her 15-month-old son's genitals with a hair-straightening iron has pleaded guilty.

Jodi Rock, 20, was set to go on trial on May 20, 2013 on a charge of enabling child abuse by injury.

She was arrested in April of 2012 after bringing her son to Tahlequah City Hospital. The emergency room staff noticed the burns, as well as what appeared to be a seriously injured shoulder, and notified authorities.

According to court records, Rock pleaded guilty on May 14, 2013.

The judge sentenced her to 20 years in prison, with three years suspended.

Her son was put into DHS custody.

According to investigators, she admitted to the act, but never explained to them why she did it.
