Pipe Bombs Recovered During Search Of Claremore Home

Tulsa Police's bomb squad found several explosive devices during search of a Claremore home Tuesday evening.

Just after 5 p.m., Rogers County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a man who had shot and killed a cat outside a home in the 700 block of South Normal Street.  The man, Robert Ellison, 52, admitted to the shooting.

When deputies served a search warrant to look for the weapon, they found what appeared to be explosive devices inside the home. 

Sheriff Scott Walton said one device was a ball-shaped plastic object wrapped in tape, with a fuse sticking out of it.  

Deputies backed out of the home and called Tulsa Police's bomb squad.

During their search, the bomb squad found several small pipe bombs, or crickets as they're called.

Sheriff Walton says the bombs, made of PVC pipe, had a fuse, were ¾ of an inch in diameter and 3 inches long. He said the bombs are more potent than the other explosives because they're designed to spread shrapnel and do damage.

Ellison was arrested and booked into the Rogers County jail on complaints of carrying a firearm after a conviction, cruelty to animals, possession of explosives by a convicted felon, reckless conduct with a firearm and obstructing an officer.
