A Kansas company is bringing new jobs to Tulsa. Taylor Forge Engineered Systems is building a new plant here.
Ken Perry is one of the students in the machining program at Tulsa Tech's Broke Arrow Campus. At 45, he really never thought he'd be a student again, but a layoff in December from American Airlines prompted him to go back to school.
"I looked at it as a new opportunity," Perry said.
That new opportunity could come from a company which plans to open a manufacturing facility at the Cherokee Industrial Park in north Tulsa.
"I'm really excited. We need as many businesses as we can come into Tulsa," Perry said.
Taylor Forge Engineered Systems is expanding its gas processing and heat transfer business, with plans to build a 53,000-square-foot manufacturing center in Tulsa.
Plans also include hiring 100 employees for positions like welders, engineers, assembly workers and more.
"Another big company or nice company coming in is always good to hire some of this talented work force that we have around here," Perry said.
Taylor Forge is headquartered in Kansas, with three facilities in the state, and has been in business for 70 years.
They'll open at the Cherokee Industrial Park, right about the time when Ken Perry graduates.
"It's great to see they'll be hiring a bunch of people," he said.
Ground will be broken on the facility within the next few weeks. The company hopes to have the new manufacturing plant finished and fully operational in September.
