Police searched for a man and a woman who carjacked a Cascia Hall student near 41st and Lewis at gunpoint late Monday.
Police first identified the victim as a college student, but she is actually a 17-year-old high school student who also attends a class at Tulsa Community College.
Police say she was driving home at about 11:30 p.m. and was waiting for a green light when a man and woman jumped into her SUV and demanded to be driven to 61st and Peoria. The man hit her in the head with the gun.
At 43rd and Lewis, she turned into a friend's driveway and jumped out. Tulsa Police say the friend wasn't home, so the victim ran next door and crawled through a doggie door to escape the carjackers.
When police officers arrived, the SUV was empty - except for a Chihuahua that the suspects abandoned in the vehicle.
Police used a K-9 officer and a helicopter to try to locate the man and woman, but were unsuccessful.
Police offered advice for drivers late at night.
"Keep your windows rolled up and your doors locked, even when you're in a relatively safe part of town. You never know what's going to happen. It's always good idea to keep your car secure when you're traveling," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Lance Eberle.
The student was taken to the hospital by her father to be checked out.
The suspects are described as a Hispanic male and female, about 18 to 20 years old. The man is about 5'10" tall and around 150 pounds. The woman was estimated at about 5'5", 170 pounds.
The woman was holding the brown Chihuahua-type puppy, which officers said she abandoned in the SUV.
One of the officers took the dog home overnight, and it is being taken to the pound Tuesday afternoon, News On 6 has learned.
