The Tulsa Police Department is holding a drug tack-back day on Saturday.

The event is to help prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted medications.

Tulsans can bring their medications for proper disposal to one of the following locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

• Reasor's parking lot- 7114 S. Sheridan Rd (71st and Sheridan)

• Reasor's parking lot- 11005 E. 41st St. (41st and Garnett)

• Reasor's parking lot- 4909 E. 41st St. Tulsa (41st and Yale)

• Save-a-Lot parking lot- 1526 N. Lewis Ave. (Pine and Lewis)

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Law enforcement agents will be onsite and medications will be sent to an incinerator for disposal.

According to a TPD news release, studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Usual methods for disposing of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash — pose potential environmental, health, and safety hazards.
