A man was shot in the back in what police said may have been an armed robbery attempt in the parking lot of a Tulsa apartment complex Wednesday night.
Around 9:30 p.m., Captain Wendell Franklin said a call came in that there had been shots fired at Plaza Hill East apartment complex, near 13000 East 16th Place. More calls then came in, saying that someone was shot. While en route, officers were told that the victim was taken to the hospital in a personal car.
The victim told TPD he was at the complex visiting his girlfriend. Police said the man, who has not yet been identified by police, claimed he was approached by two black males. He told police he didn't know the men and said he believes they were possibly trying to rob him.
One or both of the men opened fire, after a confrontation with the victim, police said.
Franklin said the victim was hit in the lower back. His small child was in his vehicle, and was not hurt.
Another vehicle was hit and its back window shattered.
Franklin said the victim was in stable condition.
