A motorcycle escort accompanied the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Traveling Wall replica on its journey to Tahlequah, and SkyNews 6 was there. The monument was on its way to Tahlequah for display to the public from April 17 - 20 at Tommy Thompson Football Field at Sequoyah High School.
"We'll have veterans, patriot guards and biker ministries riding," said Pastor Garland Thomas of New Life Worship Center.
Veteran and SkyNews 6 pilot Will Kavanagh said the most remarkable part of the Wall's journey was seeing traffic pull over as the escort moved through the town of Wagoner.
Riders met at the Big Chief Truck Stop at Big Cabin at 9 a.m. for the journey to Tahlequah. The escort moved down U.S. Highway 69 through Adair, Pryor, Chouteau, Wagoner and Muskogee.
Pastor Thomas served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and has been pastor at the New Life Worship Center for about 18 years, according to a news release.
The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall will be open 24 hours a day for visitors to Tahlequah. Sequoyah High School is located at 17091 South Muskogee Avenue.
The Wall is a three-quarter-scale replica created in 1990 and is dedicated to all Americans who served in Vietnam and honors all veterans of the United States military forces.
