A fire in the 5000 block of South 67th East Avenue has destroyed one apartment on Saturday afternoon.

A man in the apartment escaped through the balcony.

The Tulsa Fire Department said it appears as though the resident started a cooking fire, which escalated when a neighbor with good intentions opened the door to help and fed the fire oxygen. The balcony door was still open, which created a draft, TFD said.

The Red Cross said it is assisting the displaced family.

There were no injuries reported.

TFD said the apartment below has water damage.
