Wednesday Morning Update

What a bizarre weather pattern!  The arctic front is now east of our area but has yet to move into western Arkansas.  Much colder air will reside across the region today with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s for northeastern OK.  Slightly warmer air will be likely this morning across extreme eastern OK but temps will also fall into the upper 30s or lower 40s later today.   Moisture continues to move up and over the shallow dome of cold air at the surface and is producing scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the thunderstorms may still produce some hail this morning in few locations.   The front has stalled along and east of the 69-75 corridor and a few surface based thunderstorms may also be possible later this afternoon across extreme southeastern OK into western Arkansas.  

Another issue is something we mentioned yesterday in the blog:  freezing rain!  A large area of western OK is now experiencing surface temps near freezing.  Some sleet and freezing rain has been reported in some of this area and a winter weather advisory remains in effect for a large portion of western OK this morning.  The only counties in our immediate area included in this advisory will be Payne, Pawnee, and Osage counties.  I don't anticipate any major issues in the Pawnee or Osage county areas, but locations near and west of OKC could see some icing resulting in slick roads and power outages. 

This cold air mass will stick around today and quickly modify Thursday into Friday with temps moving into the lower 50s tomorrow and near 60 Friday.  A fast and weak wave will be near our area Saturday and may produce a shower or sprinkle.  I will make a whopping 10% mention for this system.  The weekend temps appear mild with Saturday near 68 and Sunday near 78.

Another cold front will be position north of the state early next week before moving southward around Tuesday night or Wednesday bringing another chance of rain and colder air. 

The high in Tulsa yesterday was 79 recorded at 5:52pm.   The normal daily average high is 70 and the low is 47.  Our daily records include a high of 92 from 1927 and a low of 31 from 2003, 1973, and 1952.
