A 73-year-old Bartlesville man, who left a jacket containing $14,000 at a Krebs restaurant is extremely grateful after an employee found and returned the money.
Jerry Allsup says he planned to use the cash to buy a car in McAlester but the vehicle wasn't in good condition.
He said on the way out of town, he stopped at Pete's Place at 120 SW 8th Street in Krebs for lunch and unwittingly left behind his jacket full of $100 bills.
Pete's Place employee Kathy Prichard tells the McAlester News-Capital she found the jacket and its contents and put the coat away for safekeeping.
The jacket contained no identification and when Allsup called the next morning, Prichard verified he was the true owner.
After driving from Bartlesville back to Krebs, Allsup tried to give Prichard a reward but she refused. "She insisted that I count the money, which was all there," Jerry Allsup told the newspaper.
Allsup said as a senior citizen who is on a fixed income, this money was very significant to him. He gave Prichard a hug and said he was blessed by Prichard and the restaurant telling the newspaper, "she had indeed set the bar very high for me to "pay it forward'."
