UPDATE: The city of Claremore says the issue was resolved early Tuesday and the all service at the water treatment plant has been restored.
The City of Claremore is asking residents to conserve water after underground wiring near the water treatment plant was damaged in a grass fire.
The plant was shut down for repairs.
A statement was posted to the City of Claremore Government Facebook page Monday evening, asking customers to cease all non-essential water use:
"We are asking all utility customers to conserve water due to a fire at the Water Treatment Plant. No one was injured and the fire was contained to a grassy area, so it did not affect the building, but there was damage to underground wiring and the plant was shut down. During the repair work, the plant will remain offline and we will not be producing water. Please shut off all automatic sprinkler systems, refrain from outdoor watering or washing vehicles, unnecessary dish washing or laundry or any other non-essential water use while we work to complete the repairs. We will keep you updated as we obtain more information. Thanks for your cooperation and patience."
