Sheriff's Deputies arrested the owner of a pit bull that attacked a Sand Springs man this week.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said Gary Wayne Brashier, 53, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on complaints of animal at large and 11 outstanding warrants out of Tulsa County.

The dog attacked Jeremy Byrd Tuesday night in his neighborhood near 800 West Long Street in Sand Springs. A neighbor said he had to use a choke hold to get the dog to let go of Byrd's arm and his mother stabbed it to death with a kitchen knife to stop it from attacking.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said Brashier fled the scene the night Byrd was attacked, as first responders arrived, and has been evasive of investigators since. They said Brashier had been served a notice that he owned a potentially dangerous animal before.

Investigators said additional charges may be added against Brashier for maintaining a dangerous dog.
