A Vinita woman is dead after her car went off a bridge, landing upside down in a creek. Authorities believe her ability to drive was impaired by alcohol.

Shelly D. Long died at Craig General Hospital in Vinita at 4:04 a.m. Sunday, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers say at 2:15 a.m., Long was southbound on county road NS 4440 about two miles outside Vinita when her car left the roadway to the right and went over a guardrail. The 2005 Cadillac rolled a half time and landed on its top, submerged in a creek. Long was pinned in the vehicle for about 25 minutes, according to an OHP collision report.

A passenger, 22-year-old Nolan R. Long of Vinita, was treated and released from the Vinita hospital with minor injuries.

Trooper Jerrod Martin of the Nowata County detachment said the cause of the wreck was driving under the influence of alcohol.
