Tulsa Veterinarian Charged With Animal Cruelty, Practicing Without License

A Tulsa veterinarian was arrested Friday for practicing veterinary medicine without a license for about a two-month period last year. Dr. Ralph Grogan, DVM, has also been charged in district court with three counts of manufacturing a false prescription and a county of cruelty to animals.

According to court documents, Grogan's license was suspended from August 7, 2012, until October 4, 2012. During that time, he continued to practice at Acadia Veterinary Medicine and wrote prescriptions for Phenobarbital, a controlled medication, the charges state.

The cruelty to animals charge states that on November 30, 2012, Grogan administered two doses of Anased, inflicting "grievous wound and injuries" to a dog. Anased, or Xylazine, is a drug commonly used for sedation in animals, according to the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.

Grogan was released on a $115,000 bond.
