Tulsa firefighters spent part of the afternoon battling an apartment fire that broke out at about 3:30 p.m. at Chaparral Apartments, near 10th Street and Lewis Avenue.

The floor gave way under one of the firefighters while he was inside, but other firefighters were able to pull him up and they kept fighting the fire.

The fire started in a downstairs unit, and then spread up the walls into the attic.

They were able get the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

About six apartment units were heavily damaged.

The Red Cross said it was providing financial assistance and a place to stay for two families, following the fire.
