Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn weighed in on gun control when he stopped by News On 6's new studios this weekend.
Senator Coburn said he does not support any of the proposed restrictions on guns and ammunition, but he does support stricter laws when it comes to background checks and the mentally ill.
"I'm interested in talking about all those issues. I'm not interested in giving up our liberties on a rationalization that giving up that liberty is actually going to protect someone, because it's not," Coburn said. "All of those tragedies occurred in gun free zones. The law said you can't have a gun there. There was a gun there."
Senator Coburn went on to say violent entertainment has desensitized society to violence and devalued human life, and that is also something that needs to be addressed.
