Tulsa Fire Rescues Worker After Falling In A Shaft At Port Of Catoosa

Editors note: Initial reports from Tulsa Fire was the worker had fallen in a silo at the port. Fire officials later clarified it was an underground shaft which runs below the grain silo.

Tulsa firefighters rescued a worker from an underground shaft at a silo at Peavey Grain at the Port of Catoosa Thursday morning.

Fire officials say a worker was climbing down a ladder in the shaft when he fell about 20 feet.  Despite the distance of the fall, Tulsa Fire says the worker did not break any bones but was complaining of aches and pains. 

After firefighters used ropes to hoist the worker out of the shaft through an opening 2 foot square. He was taken by a medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital to be checked out.

Tulsa Fire say the worker is expected to be okay.

Tulsa Fire was dispatched to the Port at about 9:15 a.m.  Tulsa Fire says the department trains for this type of rescue about 100 to 150 hours a year.
