A group of animal-loving Green Country residents worked to rescue a frightened dog hiding under a Budweiser delivery truck Christmas Eve morning.

Jennifer Broaddus, former News On 6 producer, said she was driving on Harvard between 61st and 71st when traffic came to a standstill.

"I sat there for 10 or 15 minutes wondering 'What's going on?' she said. "Then a guy returned to his car in front of me and grabbed some beef jerky."

Jennifer called out to the other driver who told her there was a puppy hiding underneath a delivery truck. So she went along to see how she could help.

"At one point there were three men under the truck trying to coax the dog out," she said. "They had a rake someone had found by the road and were trying to tempt him with beef jerky."

The dog was scared and kept running around in circles avoiding his would-be rescuers.

"Everyone worked together to try to help the puppy," she said. "One guy was directing traffic while everyone else tried to get the puppy out."

Finally, two Mormon missionaries were able to make the rescue work. One young man took off his coat and scooped the puppy up in his arms.

"It was really great that the delivery truck driver was willing to wait – the truck was so big he was afraid he'd hurt the dog, but I'm sure he had to finish his delivery route," said Jennifer Broaddus of Tulsa.

The dog wasn't hurt, and when Jennifer left, the missionaries were trying to find the pup's owners. If they can't be located, he'll be taken to the Humane Society.
