Police responded to a call of shots fired near Celia Clinton Elementary School, but not on the school's property, said a spokesperson from Tulsa Public Schools.
Tulsa Police said it started just before 2 p.m. in the area of 1740 North Harvard.
Police said they were told someone fired a gun on the north side of the school and ran away. They said parents alerted the school, which then went on lockdown.
TPS said the school is on lockdown as standard procedure, but the police said they are "fairly certain" that the shooter didn't enter school property.
As of 3:30 p.m., the school was not allowing kids to leave since a lot of the students walk home and the person who fired the shots is still at large.
Around 4 p.m., the school was no longer on lockdown and the school started allowing in five parents at a time to get their children.
Police said there have been no reports of injuries associated with the gunfire.
Tulsa Police have saturated the area around the school, searching with K-9 units and the police helicopter.
Police said the gunman is a black male of unknown age, 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall, slender and wearing a black or dark blue hoodie and blue jeans.
