Teen Flown To Tulsa Hospital After LeFlore County House Fire

A 15-year-old LeFlore County girl is in a Tulsa hospital after her home caught fire Sunday afternoon.

Poteau Fire Chief Jon Pickel says they got the call about the fire on Old Wister Highway near Poteau at about 4 p.m. He says the fire broke out on the first floor and spread to the second floor.

Pickel says firefighters were told everyone was out of the home. They learned the girl, Kalab Kellie, had tried to fight the fire and was en route to a Poteau hospital by private vehicle because of severe smoke inhalation.

He says the driver met an ambulance that was en route to the house so she was transferred to the ambulance.

Pickel says an airplane took Kellie to a Tulsa hospital. There is no word on her condition.

Pickel says the cause of the fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's Office.
