A former Tulsa Memorial High School and Oklahoma State University graduate will be promoted by the Oklahoma Army National Guard next Tuesday from the rank of colonel to brigadier general.
Colonel Hopper T. Smith will be promoted during a ceremony at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.
Smith, who now lives in Edmond, was commissioned through ROTC at OSU in 1983 as an infantry officer. He worked his way up the ranks and served in two deployments in Afghanistan with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Smith's military education includes the infantry officer basic and advanced courses, military intelligence officer transition course; Command and General Staff College; Joint Military Intelligence College; and the Army War College.
Smith is a former member of the Oklahoma House.
The promotion ceremony is at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Blue Room at the state capitol.
