Tulsa Women's Basketball Falls In Overtime

Arkansas' Kelsey Hatcher's three-pointer with 0:13 remaining in regulation forced overtime, where the Lady Razorbacks out-scored Tulsa 12-4 and captured a 64-56 victory at the Tulsa Convention Center Arena in downtown Tulsa on Thursday night.

Tulsa dropped to 0-3 on the season, while Arkansas improved to 2-0.

Tulsa's Taleya Mayberry led all scorers with 25 points, while fellow senior Tiffani Couisnard had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Arkansas was led by Keira Peak's 17 points and 14 rebounds, followed by 14 points by Sarah Watkins and 12 points by Quistelle Williams.

The Hurricane led for all but two minutes in the second half. Arkansas led just two times in the final 20 minutes, both times coming within the first two minutes.

Tulsa took its first lead of the game on its first basket of the second half with a Mayberry jumper. Arkansas scored the next four points before the Hurricane tied the score at 33-33 and then held the lead for the next 10 minutes.

During that stretch, Tulsa's largest lead was seven points at 49-42 with 8:20 remaining in the game. Following a technical foul on Tulsa's Tiffani Couisnard at the 7:16 mark, Arkansas scored the next seven points to tie the game at 49-49 with 5:55 remaining on the game clock

The two teams went scoreless in the next 2:30 before Mayberry knocked down a three-pointer to break the tie for a 52-49 Tulsa lead at the 3:13 mark. It wasn't until three minutes later that Arkansas broke its five-minute scoring drought with Hatcher's three-pointer to tie the game at 52. Kelsey Grovey's three-pointer from the right corner with 0:06 on the clock missed and forced the extra period.

The first half was a game of runs, 9-0 and 8-0 runs for the Razorbacks and 6-0 and 10-0 streaks for the Hurricane.

Arkansas jumped out to a 9-0 start and at the 15:58 timeout held an 11-2 advantage while forcing four Hurricane turnovers in the first four minutes. Tulsa then outscored the Razorbacks 10-6 to cut the visitors lead to 17-12 with 12 minutes left on the first-half clock as Ashley Clark's layup and three-pointer sparked the Hurricane run.

Tulsa scored six straight points to cut Arkansas lead to two points at 20-18 at the 6:15 mark on a steal and layup by Mayberry, but the Hogs scored the next eight points to take a 28-18 lead with 4:06 to play.

The Hurricane then went on a 10-0 run in the final four minutes of the first-half to tie the game at 28-28, as the senior Mayberry scored seven points in that time span en route to 15-point first half.

In the first 20 minutes, Tulsa shot 38 percent from the field, while the Razorbacks shot 31 percent.

Tulsa will be off for a week before going on the road next Friday to play Illinois at the Junkanoo Jam Tournament in Freeport, Bahamas.
