A Washington County district jury has found a former Bartlesville Police officer Sonya Worthington guilty of assault and battery.

Worthington was charged after an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation into claims that Worthington and another former officer assaulted an emergency detention order patient in the ER at a Bartlesville hospital in September 2011.

Bartlesville Police were called to the hospital to assist with the patient who wanted to leave the hospital.

Worthington allegedly struck the victim and placed him in a headlock. Worthington claimed she used on necessary force to restrain the man.

After deliberating for about an hour, the six member jury found Worthington guilty, but declined to recommend jail time. The jury did recommend a $1,000 fine.

The other former Bartlesville Police officer, Stacy Neafus, who is also charged with assault and battery has not had his trial date set.
