A standoff with a murder suspect ended Friday morning after the man turned the gun on himself at a Tulsa motel.
Patrol cars surrounded the Days Inn at Interstate 244 and Sheridan Road. The suspect, Eliboreo Carillo, locked himself in one of the rooms and shot himself, police said about 10 a.m.
Tactical teams heard shots fired in the room just before 7 a.m., according to Officer Leland Ashley with the Tulsa Police Department. Although the department spoke to Carillo earlier in the standoff, they were not in communication with him recently, Ashley said.
"We're acting if he's still alive," the officer told News On 6.
Investigators say Carillo, 35, drove up to a man's car and opened fire on him Thursday afternoon. Three kids, ages 7, 10 and 15, where in the car when the victim was killed.
Police say the man was targeted because he was in a relationship with Carillo's ex-wife.
The standoff at Day's Inn began shortly before 2 a.m. when police learned Carillo was at the hotel. On Thursday, they believed the man might be headed to Mexico.
Police have been using non-lethal methods like tear gas in an attempt to force the suspect outside. Public Information Officer Leland Ashley said are not going to rush the situation but are putting the safety of officers and civilians first.
"Hopefully we can bring this to a peaceful end," he said.
